Lurgan Linkages
Overview
Lurgan Town Centre has undergone a process of dramatic change over the last decade, spearheaded by the local community and businesses working in partnership with statutory agencies.
This had resulted in a new major road, a change in the geographical business axis, a new school, major capital projects in sports centres and local businesses, and a new dynamism in the town. But in doing so Lurgan has also retained, even celebrated, its rich heritage and a multi-million pound heritage lottery project is currently underway. Public art works of the linen bleachers and the famous ‘Master McGrath’ dog take pride of place in the central plaza, which also creates a pleasant environment to sit in. Lurgan Park, the largest public park in Northern Ireland, second in Ireland only to Phoenix Park, continues to be a major asset to the town and public life.
An area within the town was designated as a conservation area in 2004 and it is the site of a number of historic listed buildings including Brownlow House and Lurgan Town Hall.
Council would now like to gather the thoughts and opinions of the business community, residents, community groups and the wider public on potential environmental improvements to various key linkages within the town centre.
Why your views matter
The town has benefited from substantial investment by way of capital works programmes which delivered 3 phases of public realm works. Currently, Lurgan is also benefiting from a Townscape Heritage scheme which will transform the streetscape of the town centre. It is envisaged the Lurgan Linkages scheme will revitalise some of the key linkages within the town centre.
Council have appointed design consultants to deliver a series of concept designs for linkages within Lurgan Town Centre. We are actively seeking your feedback on the type of interventions which would benefit these areas. The responses from this public consultation will help to inform these concept designs.
The survey should take no more than 10 minutes to complete and will provide the business community, residents and the wider community an opportunity to express their views. We value your input.
